Poland's largest energy concern Orlen has launched an operations and service base in Leba for the Baltic Power offshore wind farm being built jointly with Canada's Northland Power, Orlen said in a press release.
According to the press release, technicians and service personnel are expected to start work later this year.
"The Baltic Power base in Leba will operate the service vessels and perform all the necessary activities to ensure trouble-free and safe operation of the offshore wind farm. Around 60 technicians and employees will find work here for about 30 years," said the CEO of Baltic Power Grzegorz Szablinski, quoted in the press release.
The base in Leba is currently supporting installation work at the offshore site located approximately 23 kilometres from the coast. Foundation work, including the installation of monopiles and transition elements, is currently underway.
Installation of the wind turbines and marine cables will begin in the coming weeks. As reported, on land, the construction of cable routes and the substation in the municipality of Choczewo is proceeding according to schedule.
The Baltic Power offshore wind farm, with a total capacity of 1.2 GW, will be launched in 2026. It will generate approximately 4,000 GWh of zero-emission electricity per year.
