Allegro.eu S.A.Allegro e-commerce sees growing activity of Chinese players on European markets
Listed e-commerce platform Allegro has observed an increase in the activity of Chinese e-commerce platforms on European markets in recent months, including Poland, group representatives told a conference call.
"We are seeing an increase in activity (...) from the tariffs and the changes that were imposed in the US. So, there is clearly more activity of the Chinese players across Europe, not only in Poland in recent months," Allegro's CFO Jon Eastick told the conference call on Thursday.
As he pointed out, this has an impact on the group's marketing spending.
Allegro's CEO Marcin Kusmierz assessed that the direct competition with Chinese e-commerce platforms is "kind of limited", as the Chinese players cover different parts of the market, mainly being focused on most price-sensitive customers.
"The strength of Allegro is based on cooperation with hundreds of thousands of merchants from Poland and the region. And we have the widest selection of branded products," he stressed.
Asked about the group's regulatory expectations, CEO Kusmierz replied: "We don't expect any kind of protection for Allegro or other European players. The only thing we expect is fair competition and to have the same rules for every single player existing or selling some goods on the European markets."
"We see that, for example, the US is acting faster and protecting the market against unfair competition. And our expectation is almost the same," Kusmierz pointed out.
