Jeronimo Martins SGPS SABiedronka powers over 1 k shops with green energy, plans 9 distributions centers installations
Poland's largest retail chain Biedronka, owned by Portuguese Jeronimo Martins is powering over a thousand shops with green energy and it signed an agreement with EDP Energia Polska for photovoltaic panels installation in 9 distribution centers, Biedronka said in a press release.
As stated, over a thousand shops are partly powered by green energy, which is a third of all facilities and on the basis of a 15-year agreement, 9 out of 17 distribution centers will be powered by photovoltaic installations.
As of now, one of Biedronka's distribution centers is powered by a 700 kWp photovoltaic installation, located in Stawigud. In the coming years, photovoltaic installations will be installed in the distribution centers in Gdansk, Sosnowiec, Ruda Slaska, Gorzow Wielkopolski, Grudziadz, Sieradz, Skarbimierz, Parzniew and Wojnicz, each one of those operating 209 Biedronka shops on average.
"Thanks to these photovoltaic installations, nearly 16 percent of the electricity needs of the distribution centers will be supplemented with zero-carbon and locally produced electricity, which will be used exclusively for Biedronka's own needs. Each of the photovoltaic installations will provide between 600 and 1,000 kWp of power, supplying a total of more than 7 MWp," Biedronka said.
"The new sources will produce up to 7.5 GWh of green energy per year, corresponding to the electricity needs of more than 3,000 households. The goal of Biedronka is to increase the share of green power in all of the shops and distribution centers in Poland," the company added.
