JSW coal records PLN 307 mln savings year-to-date, 85 pct of plan for 2025

From March 1 to May 22, 2025, listed coking coal group JSW recorded PLN 155 million (EUR 36.5 mln) in procurement savings, and a total of PLN 307 million (EUR 72.3 mln) in total savings year-to-date, which is 85 percent of the PLN 360 million (EUR 84.8 mln) assumed for the whole of 2025 according to the Strategic Transformation Plan, the company said in a market filing.

JSW also reported that it performs a number of initiatives aimed at improving the utilisation of longwall complexes and bringing about an increase in the volume of coking coal extraction.

The group said that the most advanced work has been on the 'Efficient Mine' stream, under which a pilot programme to increase output has been launched. It has been implemented at five selected longwalls. In addition to the technical solutions developed earlier, a modified incentive system for longwall brigades has been launched.

"The effects were very promising - in April, output at the longwalls included in the pilot programme was 325,000 tonnes of net coal, an increase of 17 percent compared to the planned level of 278,000 tonnes," JSW said in the market filing.

The group reported that the pilot continues in May and has additionally been extended to selected longwalls - with a view to accelerating preparatory works.

"(...) from July onwards, further changes will be implemented, this time in auxiliary functions having a direct impact on the volume of extraction," said JSW's CEO Ryszard Janta, quoted in the press release.

In the case of investments, savings of more than PLN 1.2 billion (EUR 282.7 mln) have already been recorded, and work is currently underway to optimise expenditures on reinforcement, moving pits and optimising other capital expenditures.
