Listed banks record declines of several pct; Millennium, PKO BP and Alior down about 7 pct
Banks listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange are falling about 5-7 percent each, with Millennium being the weakest, down about 7.5 percent. Alior and PKO BP are losing nearly 7 percent each. Of the nine largest listed lenders, Santander Bank Polska is falling the least, by less than 5 percent.
At around 11:50 a.m., the WIG20 was down 2.4 percent to 2,573 points, and the WIG fell by 2.3 percent to 92,307 points.
mWIG40 was down 2.4 percent to 6,982 points, and the sWIG80 went down 1.3 percent to 26,209 points.
The WIG Banks index decreased by more than 6 percent to 14,636 points.
BNP Paribas, Bank Handlowy and mBank each lost about 6 percent, while ING BSK and Pekao each fell about 5.5 percent.
Indexes in Europe are falling, as are contracts in the US. There is risk aversion in the markets due to concerns about the possibility of a global recession in the face of new US tariffs.
