Orlen SAOrlen energy completes Baltic Sea seabed exploration for another offshore wind farm
Poland's largest energy concern Orlen has completed research on the Baltic Sea seabed for another offshore wind farm, Orlen announced in a press release. The information obtained will allow its subsidiary, Orlen Neptun, to develop the next key stages of the investment.
It was reported that preliminary seismic and geotechnical surveys of the seabed were conducted for almost four months in the area of the Baltic East offshore wind farm project by three specialist units from a consortium of Polish companies: Orlen Petrobaltic, Geofizyka Torun and MEWO (a company operating on the European offshore market, providing geophysical measurement services).
The tests and their analysis will help interpret the seabed’s geological structure at the site, prepare necessary documentation for design work, and plan future geological surveys.
The Baltic East project has received preliminary permits for network connection, construction or use of artificial islands and structures, and for laying and maintaining cables in internal and territorial waters.
In 2026, the Orlen Group will launch the Baltic Power farm, adding nearly 1.2 GW of capacity to the Polish energy grid, covering about 3 percent of Poland’s electricity demand. Baltic East is a neighbouring project with a potential installed capacity of nearly 1 GW, enabling the production of energy for approximately 1.25 million households.
