PKN Orlen SAOrlen energy with shares in 8 new licences on Norwegian continental shelf
Poland's largest energy company Orlen's upstream unit Orlen Upstream Norway (OUN), together with other shareholders, has won eight new licences on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, according to the results of the annual APA concession round published by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate on Tuesday.
Fifty-three licences were awarded in the APA (Awards in Predefined Areas) 2024 concession round. 33 lie in the North Sea, 19 in the Norwegian Sea and one in the Barents Sea. According to the Norwegian energy ministry, a total of 20 companies were awarded new concessions.
Orlen Upstream Norway (formerly PGNiG Upstream Norway) received a total of eight new licences, where it will operate with various partners.
In the Norwegian Sea lies the PL 0942 BS licence, in which Orlen will have a 40 percent stake, the rest belonging to Aker BP and Equinor.
The other seven new concession areas lie in the North Sea.
In the licences PL0636D, PL0044D, OUN has a 30 percent stake each, in PL1246 - 24.41 percent, in PL1175B - 20 percent, in PL0442D - 12.3 percent, and in PL1249 and PL1250S - 9.84 percent each.
The Polish company's partners there are: Aker BP, DNO Norge, Petoro, Equinor, ConocoPhillips, Var Energi, TotalEnergies, Sval Energi, Inpex Idemitsu.
Together with the new ones, Orlen already has interests in more than 100 licences on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. In 2024, Orlen's own gas production from the Norwegian fields was 4.6 billion cubic metres.
According to the new strategy, the company plans to produce 6 billion cubic metres of gas in Norway from 2035 onwards. In addition, Orlen is also extracting oil and condensate from these deposits.
