Orlen SAOrlen energy's total natural gas production in 2024 higher by 20 percent y/y
Poland's largest energy concern Orlen Group's total natural gas production from its own fields in Poland and abroad was 8.6 billion cubic metres, 20 percent higher year on year, the group said in a press release. Orlen's new strategy is to increase gas production to 12 billion cubic metres by 2030 and maintain this level until 2035.
"The upstream area is one of the main development directions set out in Orlen Group's strategy until 2035. It significantly contributes to our country's energy security and provides a source of bridge fuel for a responsible transition," Wieslaw Prugar, upstream board member, Orlen, quoted in the release, said.
"In recent years, the Orlen Group's domestic and international natural gas production has accounted for almost half of Poland's annual demand for this raw material," he added.
Prugar said that the strategy envisages a further increase in gas production by almost 40 percent compared to the current one.
"To achieve this, we plan to focus primarily on investments in Poland and Norway. We are also analysing the possibility of developing hydrocarbon production in the North American market, which can open up access to huge resources, while at the same time enabling the efficient supply of gas to Poland in the form of LNG," said the board member.
As reported, the foreign production realised on the Norwegian Continental Shelf by Orlen Upstream Norway in 2024 amounted to more than 4.5 billion cubic metres, an increase of more than 45 percent compared to 2023.
In turn, gas production realised by Orlen Group from domestic fields amounted to approximately 3.3 billion cubic metres, close to the 2023 level.
