PGE SAPGE power may get two post-coal locations for nuclear power plant construction
If listed power utility PGE aquired listed power utility ZE PAK's 50 percent in the companies' joint nuclear power unit PGE PAK Energia Jadrowa, the company would get two post-coal locations for potential nuclear power plant construction (Konin and Belchatow), the government's strategic energy infrastructure plenipotentiary Wojciech Wrochna told journalists.
Wrochna said that if Konin was indicated as a potential location for Poland's second nuclear power plant, under the Polish nuclear energy programme PPEJ, then Poland's government would automatically green light the project.
He pointed out that if PGE aquires PGE PAK Energia Jadrowa, it would mean that it has two potential nuclear power plant locations - Konin and Belchatow.
"A probable element of discussions between PGE and the government will be an internal discussion within PGE on which location should be priotitised," Wrochna added.
On Thursday, it was reported that listed power utilities PGE and ZE PAK have signed a term sheet on a potential transaction involving the acquisition by PGE of 100 percent of the shares in PAK CCGT from ZE PAK and 50 percent of the shares in PGE's nuclear power unit PGE PAK EJ.
PGE said that the founders and current shareholders in the 50/50 model of PGE PAK Energia Jadrowa, which is preparing a nuclear power plant project in the Konin region, are PGE and ZE PAK.
PGE PAK EJ has a basic decision for the construction of a nuclear power plant issued by the Minister of Climate and Environment in November 2023.
