Poland's energy regulator announces final results of supplementary capacity auctions for 2026
The head of Poland's energy market regulator URE has announced the final results of the supplementary auctions for the individual quarters of the 2026 delivery year, URE said on its website. In four separate auctions, conducted by Poland's grid operator PSE, the closing prices for each quarter ranged from PLN 37.24 (EUR 8.68) to PLN 487 (EUR 113.57) per kW per year.
The auctions took place on March 27, 2025.
"The supplementary auction for supply in the first quarter of 2026 was won by 98 bids. The auction ended in the third round with a closing price of PLN 388.05/kW/year. The total volume of capacity obligations resulting from the contracts concluded for this quarter amounts to 2.02 GW," URE announced.
"The supplementary auction for supply in the second quarter of 2026 was won by 10 bids. This auction was completed in the twelfth round with a closing price of PLN 37.24/kW/year. The contracted volume of capacity obligations for the second quarter is just over 0.087 GW," it added.
As reported, the supplementary auction for the third quarter of 2026 was also won by 10 bids and was also completed in round twelve.
"The closing price was PLN 37.25/kW/year and the total capacity obligations for this quarter amounted to just over 0.093 GW," the regulator said.
"On the other hand, the supplementary auction for the fourth quarter of 2026, which had already closed in the first round, was won by 115 bids. The closing price was PLN 487/kW/year and the contracted volume of capacity obligations for the last quarter of 2024 is close to 2.39 GW," it added.
As the regulator explained, the differences in the prices and volumes of purchased power in each quarter are due to the volume of capacity demand and the power offered by the auction participants.
The main capacity market auction for 2026 took place on December 16, 2021, and ended in the first round with the closing price for Polish units at PLN 400.39 (EUR 93.37) per kW per year. The total volume of capacity obligations resulting from 2026 supply contracts concluded as a result of the main auction was 7.2 GW.
