Poland's nuclear power SPV launches preparatory work for 1st nuclear power plant construction
Poland's 100-percent state-owned nuclear power SPV PEJ has begun preparatory work in October for the construction of Poland's first nuclear power plant, PEJ announced in a press release.
PEJ announced that on Monday, October 27, following the geodetic demarcation of the 299-hectare preparatory area, the Choczewo Forest District will begin cutting down trees and shrubs on behalf of the company. The felling work will be completed by March 31, 2026, at the latest.
On August 29, 2025, the Pomeranian region governor granted PEJ a permit for preparatory work for the investment, and after conducting a reassessment of the environmental impact, the General Director for Environmental Protection granted his approval to the scope of work agreed.
At the end of September, PEJ applied to the governor of Pomeranian region for a permit to carry out the second stage of preparatory work. The SPV announced that the first stage of preparatory work was to be launched in the autumn.
PEJ assumes that in 2026, it will apply for a construction permit to the nuclear regulatory authority - the National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA). The company hopes to obtain the permit in time to pour concrete for the first of three reactors in 2028.
This schedule provides, among other things, for the first unit to start operating in 2036.
