Tauron PE SATauron holds renewable energy projects with approx. 3.6 GW capacity
Listed power utility Tauron has renewable energy projects under its own development with a total capacity of approximately 3.6 GW, the company's representatives told a conference. It is currently analysing eight locations for SMR investments.
"We have a large portfolio of our own projects. We have a total of 3.6 GW of projects that are currently in our portfolio in preparation," said deputy CEO Michal Orlowski at a press conference.
He added that the company has increased the capabilities of its team and prepared procedures and solutions in the system area that will allow them to scale its own development.
The company's projects consist of about 60 percent energy storage, 11 percent wind farms, and 28 percent PV. Implementation of 0.4 GW of projects may start in 2025, with 2.1 GW in 2026-27 and 0.8 GW in 2028-29.
"Our own development is intended to ensure that most of the value created throughout the entire life cycle of a renewable energy project remains with us. We need to select projects that will provide us with an optimal mix and build on our competitive advantages," said Orlowski.
He pointed out that there is an oversupply of photovoltaic projects on the market.
"In the area of photovoltaics, we are trying to use our own development first, with some synergies, and also look for preferential financing solutions, so that our photovoltaic projects, even with price paths that assume a further deterioration of the profile, are competitive," said the deputy CEO.
As showed in the Tauron's presentation, 290 MW of new renewable energy capacity had been installed over the last 12 months.
Orlowski announced that in the area of heating, the group had submitted applications for connection conditions for projects with a capacity of 187 MWt using Power-to-Heat technology.
"Most investment decisions in this segment will be made in 2026, in particular in Katowice, Lagisza and Tychy," said Orlowski.
In the area of generation, connection conditions were obtained for 1.4 GW of OCGT units.
"The launch of these projects will depend on obtaining sufficient revenue from the capacity market to ensure their economic viability," he added.
He announced that the company is analysing locations for SMR projects.
"We are considering eight potential locations at this stage, but we assume that it may be one or two projects at most. We are also preparing an electrolyser project in Jaworzno, for which we have obtained a PLN 133 million subsidy," Orlowski concluded.
