Orlen SAUnipetrol's refinery Litvinov resumes operations after power outage
The Litvinov Refinery, owned by Poland's largest energy concern Orlen's subsidiary Unipetrol, is resuming operations following Friday's power outage, Unipetrol announced on its website on Monday.
"The electricity supply to the Litvinov refinery was restored and increased to the required level on Friday, July 4, between 16:00 and 17:00," Unipetrol announced.
It added that immediately thereafter, the inspection of all technological equipment and preparations for the resumption of operations has begun. It is expected to take several days.
"The refinery had to resort to controlled combustion of surplus production on safety burners. Steam production was resumed in the morning of Saturday, July 5, which, among other things, is necessary to ensure smokeless combustion," the company wrote in the statement.
As Unipetrol reported, the Kralupy refinery was not affected by the power outage and therefore remained in operation. Fuel supplies for the Czech market are assured.
On Friday at around 12:00 local time, a widespread power outage occurred in the Most region, Prague's right bank and other Czech cities. According to CEPS, the Czech Republic's electricity system operator, the outage occurred at a switching station located in Chodov district of Czech capital. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said the cause of the outage was a technical fault.
