PEJ completes first phase of in-depth geological surveys to construct first nuclear power plant
The first phase of in-depth geological research for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Pomerania has been completed, according to Poland's 100-percent state-owned nuclear power SPV PEJ. The company added that the results are necessary to apply appropriate solutions during the design of three AP1000 reactors at Poland's first nuclear power plant.
"The first phase of in-depth geological research, aimed at detailed recognition of the hydrogeological and geological-engineering conditions in the designated part of the Lubiatowo-Kopalino land location, has been completed," the release said.
It added that the results of this stage of research are necessary to apply appropriate solutions during the design of three AP1000 nuclear power units at the site of Poland's first nuclear power plant.
PEJ noted that preliminary studies for the remaining infrastructure, including the conventional part, internal roads and administrative facilities, will be carried out during the second stage of research, planned for 2026 after receiving administrative approvals.
Energy Minister Milosz Motyka said on Tuesday that the building permit for the nuclear power plant in Pomerania is to be obtained in 2027 and that this deadline is not at risk. He confirmed that the launch of the first reactor is planned for the mid-2030s.
