Poland agrees to set up defence fund - Development Funds Minister
Poland's Council of Ministers has agreed to establish a Defence and Security Fund to which funds from Poland's national recovery plan KPO are to be redirected, Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy Katarzyna Pelczynska-Nalecz announced on X.
"It is now official: Poland is the first in Europe to establish a Defence and Security Fund in the KPO. We will invest billions in shelters, dual-use infrastructure, and the development of Polish defence companies. We will develop our industry and research new technologies," Pelczynska-Nalecz wrote.
She added that Poland is moving into talks with the EC on the issue.
"At the same time, within two months, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence and other ministries, we will work out an investment plan for this Fund," the ministry head added.
On March 20, Deputy Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy Jan Szyszko reported that the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers had agreed to establish the Security and Defence Fund within Poland's national recovery plan KPO.
According to earlier announcements by government representatives, the fund is to be used to finance, among other things, shelters, research in the area of military technology, state-owned companies as well as private Polish companies that are involved in the production of armaments, dual-use investments, including drone technology and road construction.
The reallocated funds for the defence fund, PLN 30 billion (EUR 7.2 bln) according to previous announcements, come from KPO loans for the green transformation of cities.
