Poland to see return of credit holidays in 2026 if banks do not lower margins nor finance innovation, says Sejm Speaker
If banks will not lower their margins nor start lending to innovative projects in Poland, the mortgage moratorium (so-called credit holidays) will have to return from next year, according to a post on X by Polish parliament's lower house Sejm Speaker Szymon Holownia.
"Loans in Poland are the most expensive in Europe, banks are sleeping on money and not investing in the Polish economy," Holownia wrote after a meeting with the head of Poland's antitrust and consumer protection regulator on the Polish banking sector.
"They should lower their margins and start lending to innovative projects. If they don't start playing fair, credit holidays will have to return from next year. Poland's development is also the responsibility of the private sector," he added.
