Poland sees strengthening of factors likely to intensify inflationary pressures in longer term
Factors likely to intensify inflationary pressures in the longer term have strengthened, Poland's central bank NBP governor Adam Glapinski told a Thursday's press conference following the decision-making meeting held by the Monetary Policy Council on Wednesday.
"While current inflation has moderated and there has been news of a likely drop in gas prices in July, the fundamental factors that could increase inflationary pressures over the longer term have strengthened," Glapinski said.
"On top of that, there was the European Commission's forecast, which showed that there will be no fiscal tightening next year. In light of such a situation - and given the adjustment made in May - the MPC, after a lively discussion, decided that it was now justified to keep rates unchanged," he added.
