Poland's business cycle indicator WWK rises by over 2 pts m/m in February
Poland's leading business cycle indicator WWK, which provides advance information on future trends in the economy, has risen by over 2 points month on month to approximately 166.4 in February, researcher BIEC reported. According to the analysts, such a strong growth may suggest the start of a recovery in the national economy.
"This is the first such significant improvement in the index since autumn 2023. It creates hope for a recovery in the economy, despite the fact that most of the increases in its individual components are due only to improvements in sentiment among business managers, rather than the statistics commonly referred to as 'hard data'," BIEC wrote in the commentary on the survey results.
"Nevertheless, business optimism is a necessary condition for an eventual economic recovery. In addition, it usually reflects positive phenomena taking place in companies and in their immediate environment, which have not yet been captured in official statistics," it added.
The greatest influence on the index's growth came from positive trends on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The values of the WIG index reached another peak, although in real terms they only reached a level close to that of last March and it seems that the potential for further equally dynamic increases has been exhausted for the time being.
