Poland's FDI inflow reaches PLN 56.5 bln in 2024 - central bank

In 2024, net capital inflow from foreign direct investments in Poland amounted to PLN 56.5 billion (EUR 13.3 bln), down from PLN 119.9 billion (EUR 28.2 bln) in the previous year, Poland's central bank said in a statement.


This figure consists of: reinvested earnings of PLN 56.4 billion (EUR 13.3 bln), capital inflow from shares and other equity forms totalling PLN 24.4 billion (EUR 5.7 bln), and capital outflow related to debt instruments of PLN 24.3 billion (EUR 5.7 bln).

In 2024, foreign direct investments were mainly directed to entities involved in manufacturing (PLN 12.9 billion or EUR 3 bln), information and communication (PLN 8.1 billion or EUR 1.9 bln), and financial and insurance activities (PLN 7.4 billion or EUR 1.7 bln).

At the end of 2024, Poland's net liabilities from foreign direct investments amounted to PLN 1,399.5 billion (EUR 328.3 bln). These consisted of equity liabilities totalling PLN 1,163.1 billion (EUR 273.0 bln) and liabilities from debt financial instruments amounting to PLN 236.4 billion (EUR 55.5 bln).

The largest liability amounts, as in the previous year, were from manufacturing (PLN 406.2 billion or EUR 95.2 billion), wholesale and retail trade (PLN 183.3 billion or EUR 43.0 billion), financial and insurance activities (PLN 176.6 billion or EUR 41.4 billion), and professional, scientific, and technical activities (PLN 141.8 billion or EUR 33.2 billion).

Foreign direct investors’ income from investments in Poland in 2024 totalled PLN 135.2 billion (EUR 31.7 bln). Reinvested earnings reached PLN 56.4 billion (EUR 13.2 bln), paid dividends PLN 63.6 billion (EUR 14.9 bln), and income from debt instruments (interest) totalled PLN 15.2 billion (EUR 3.6 bln).

Income structure mirrored liability structure. The highest income was earned by direct investors from the Netherlands (PLN 32.7 billion or EUR 7.7 billion), Germany (PLN 22.1 billion or EUR 5.2 billion), France (PLN 15.1 billion or EUR 3.5 billion), and Luxembourg (PLN 12.4 billion or EUR 2.9 billion).

The highest income was earned by investors with stakes in domestic direct investment entities related to manufacturing (PLN 37.5 billion or EUR 8.8 billion), trade (PLN 26.8 billion or EUR 6.3 billion), financial and insurance activities (PLN 18.7 billion or EUR 4.4 billion), information and communication (PLN 13.7 billion or EUR 3.2 billion), and professional, scientific, and technical activities (PLN 12.1 billion or EUR 2.8 billion).
