Poland's grid operator signs over PLN 1.3 bln contracts for non-repayable funds from KPO plan
Poland's grid operator PSE has signed two agreements with the Ministry of Climate and Environment (MKiS) for co-financing PSE's investments (reconstruction of transmission lines) from the EU funds within Poland's national recovery plan KPO. The total value of the agreements is more than PLN 1.3 billion (EUR 305.76 mln); the funds are non-reimbursable, climate minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska announced at a press conference.
"The funds will be used for reconstruction, expansion of two lines, these are non-reimbursable measures," minister Hennig-Kloska told a press conference held jointly with the head of Poland's grid operator.
The CEO of PSE Grzegorz Onichimowski stressed that PSE's investments in the expansion and modernisation of the network are needed because the architecture of electricity transmission in Poland is changing due to large investments in the north, including in nuclear and offshore, as well as in gas power plants due to the expansion of LNG supply infrastructure.
"The transmission architecture is changing - and this is one challenge (...), the other is resilience. We need to increase the resilience of our system," Onichimowski stressed.
"(...) We will partly be able to finance this in a way that will not burden the Polish customer, i.e. will not increase the tariff fees for transmission (of electricity)," he added.
PSE's investment plan envisages that around PLN 64 billion (EUR 15.1 bln) will be spent on the development of the transmission networks by 2034.
