Poland's PM announces new ministers lineup as result of government reshuffle

Poland's current finance minister Andrzej Domanski will be appointed as head of new extended Ministry of Finance and Economy, current climate deputy minister Milosz Motyka will be appointed as the minister of energy and Wojciech Balczun will be appointed as the new state assets minister, replacing Jakub Jaworowski in his position, Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced at a conference.

The above appointments are an effect of the planned government reshuffle. Poland's Prime Minister had previously indicated that new ministries were to be created and that some personnel changes could be expected.

Tusk has announced establishing the Ministry of Energy, appointing Milosz Motyka as the minister.

"(...) I hereby establish the Ministry of Energy, which will decide on issues that were previously the responsibility of the Ministry of Climate and Environment [MKiS] and the Ministry of Industry [MP]. The industry and energy departments will be consolidated under one authority. I guarantee the full cooperation of the new minister, Energy Minister Milosz Motyka, with my existing partners who deal with energy issues," Tusk said.

"Energy regulations must be centralised, and this has now been achieved. From Thursday, we will have a minister of energy," he added.

Poland's Prime Minister also announced that the current finance minister will remain in office, heading the extended ministry for financial and economic affairs.

"The most important structural undertaking is the creation of a real financial and economic centre. There will be one centre operating transparently and implementing a comprehensive economic policy," he explained.

"The current finance minister, Andrzej Domanski, will be the minister of finance and economy," Tusk added.

Wojciech Balczun will replace Jakub Jaworowski in the position of state assets minister.

"I had a long conversation with the new minister of state assets. He understands very well that the state is present in state-controlled companies not so that political parties can appoint their candidates there," Tusk told the conference.

"This is a constant struggle – it is well known that state or political control involves the presence of politicians in this area, but this must be absolutely characterised by impartiality and the high qualifications of these people," he added.

PM Tusk continued that Wojciech Balczun, the new minister of state assets, has also taken on the task of directly transposing the energy policy that will be developed by the government to state-owned companies, especially energy companies.

"And state-owned companies will implement energy security policy. It is not about maximising profits, but about maximising the well-being of Poles and maximising opportunities for our companies," Tusk stressed.
