Poland's recovery plan to be reviewed in terms of funds for defence, says dev. funds minister
Following the EC President's announcement of a plan to rearm Europe, minister of development funds and regional policy Katarzyna Pelczynska-Nalecz announced a review of Poland's national recovery plan KPO in terms of redirecting funds towards defence and economic resilience.
"Following President von der Leyen's announcement, I am conducting a review of KPO with a view to redirecting resources to defence and economic resilience. Conclusions within a few days," Pelczynska-Nalecz wrote on X.
On Tuesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced a five-point plan for rearming Europe to mobilise up to EUR 800 billion for defence. It includes a loan package of EUR 150 billion for, among other things, air defence and the possibility of using cohesion policy funds.
On February 21, Poland's Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy (MFiPR) announced that Poland could redirect around PLN 20 billion (EUR 4.8 bln) of KPO loans for the green transformation of cities to the defence of Poland and Europe as a whole.
At the end of December, in an interview with PAP Biznes, minister Pelczynska-Nalecz said that KPO loans not used by cities for transformation could be redirected, for example to investments in energy infrastructure.
