Polish Cabinet adopts climate ministry's draft on new terms of electricity tariffs

Poland's Council of Ministers has adopted a draft by the Ministry of Climate and Environment (MKiS) moving the deadline for energy companies to submit tariff applications from April 30 to July 31, 2025, the climate ministry said on its website. The start date of the revised electricity prices in the tariffs is also to be postponed from July 1 to October 1, 2025.

According to Poland's climate ministry, the postponement of the deadline for the entry into force of recalculated electricity tariffs will translate into improvements for energy consumers in the fourth quarter of 2025.

"The Council of Ministers has adopted a draft law prepared by the Minister of Climate and Environment postponing the deadline for the submission of revised tariff applications by energy companies - from April 30, 2025, to July 31, 2025," MKiS announced.

"Thanks to this regulation, the revision of tariffs will allow for better consideration of current market conditions in tariff calculations and will contribute to a greater approximation of energy prices for households for the fourth quarter in these tariffs to the maximum price, which is in force until the end of September," it added.

At the same time, the new regulations provide for a postponement of the start date for the revised electricity tariffs, from July 1 to October 1, 2025.

"Prices on the wholesale market are steadily decreasing. We are postponing the entry into force of the new tariffs so that the price drops on the wholesale market are also translated into the tariffs," said the climate minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska, quoted in the statement.

Until the end of September 2025, households are guaranteed protection in the form of a maximum price of PLN 500 (EUR 116.90) per MWh.

The current legislation on the protection of household electricity consumers stipulates that electricity sellers have until April 30, 2025, to apply to change the tariffs in force until December 31, 2025.

"However, we have been observing a downward trend in the electricity market for many months, and the current pricing conditions in the wholesale markets indicate room for more price reductions in household tariffs. Therefore, the Ministry of Climate and Environment proposes to postpone the application deadline by three months," MKiS explained.
