Polish climate ministry plans to hold catch-up capacity auction for 2029 in early Q3
Poland's Ministry of Climate and Environment (MKiS) is planning to hold the catch-up capacity auction for 2029 in the beginning of the third quarter, the climate deputy minister Milosz Motyka announced.
"At the moment we are planning for the auction date for 2029 to take place somewhere in the beginning of the third quarter," Motyka told the upper house of Poland's parliament Senat (Senate).
On Thursday, the Senate passed without amendments a government-prepared amendment to the capacity market act, which allows for the holding of catch-up auctions in the event that Poland's grid operator PSE identifies a problem with the sufficiency of generation resources and reports this to the relevant minister.
The amendment assumes a catch-up auction for the 2029 delivery year and the possibility of such an auction for 2030.
"This law is a result (...) of a tight balance situation of the system, which is forecast for 2029-2030 by Poland's grid operator PSE," Motyka explained.
