Polish manufacturing index PMI up to 48.8 pts in January 2025 - S&P Global

Poland's manufacturing sector purchasing managers' index (PMI) fell to 48.8 points in January 2025 from 48.2 points in December, S&P Global report showed.

"The first release of PMI data for 2025 from S&P Global covering Poland's manufacturing sector signalled a slower overall deterioration in business conditions and improving confidence in the outlook for production," it was written.

The S&P Global Poland Manufacturing PMI rose for the first time in three months in January to 48.8, from December's 48.2.

"The latest figure extended the current record sequence of deteriorating business conditions to 33 months, but it was among the highest registered over this period and signalled only a modest rate of contraction," the report wrote.

The report shows that the upward movement in the PMI mainly reflected much slower declines in output and stocks of purchases.

"This was partly offset by a renewed fall in manufacturing employment," S&P Global wrote.

The volume of incoming new orders at Polish manufacturers continued to decline at the start of 2025, extending the current survey-record downturn that began in March 2022.

The rate of contraction was little-changed from December's modest pace, however, which had been the weakest in over a year. New export orders continued to fall at a sharper rate than domestic demand.

The authors of the report state that, the sustained downturn in new orders was reflected in production, with January registering another cut.

"Production has fallen in 33 of the past 35 months, although the latest contraction was only marginal," the report said.

"Firms cleared backlogged work at the fastest rate in nine months. Stocks of finished goods fell for the fourth month running, but much more slowly than in December when the rate of decline was the fastest in over seven years," it was written.
