Polish MPC's Tyrowicz request for 50 bps rate hike rejected at July meeting
In July, Poland's Monetary Policy Council rejected the proposal for a 50-basis points interest rate hike, which was supported only by one member, Joanna Tyrowicz, Poland's central bank NBP reported. The others present at the meeting were against it.
Earlier on Friday, Poland's court and economy bulletin MSiG reported that Tyrowicz voted against the rate cut in July 2025, while the other nine members of the Monetary Policy Council voted in favour of the resolution.
From November 2023 to May 2025, Tyrowicz submitted motions to raise interest rates by 200 basis points, and in June this year - by 250 basis points. Each time, the majority of the Monetary Policy Council rejected these requests.
In July, Poland's MPC decided to lower the reference rate of Poland's central bank NBP by 0.25 percentage points, i.e. to 5.00 percent.
