Polish research centre launches PLN 1.3 bln SMART competition for R&D projects

The Polish National Centre for Research and Development NCBR has announced the second edition of the SMART Path competition, aimed at consortia implementing research and development (R&D) projects under the European Funds for a Modern Economy Programme (FENG). The competition has a total budget of PLN 1.3 billion (EUR 300.6 mln), with applications for funding opening on January 10, 2025.

"NCBR has launched the second edition of the SMART Path for projects implemented by consortia under the European Funds for a Modern Economy Programme (FENG). This is an opportunity to implement R&D projects in partnership," NCBR said in a statement.

"The competition's budget amounts to PLN 1.3 billion, and applications for funding innovative projects will start on January 10, 2025," it added.

The SMART Path competition is aimed at consortia planning complex projects in areas such as R&D, innovation implementation, R&D infrastructure development, internationalisation, workforce and management competence development, digitisation, and green transformation of businesses.

NCBR stressed that consortium members must be selected before submitting the funding application, and the consortium agreement must be concluded before the funding agreement is signed. The lead organisation of the consortium must be an enterprise.

The total competition budget of PLN 1.3 billion (EUR 300.6 mln) is divided equally between projects involving large enterprises and those involving only smaller businesses. NCBR reserves the right to reallocate funds between the two pools in case one of them is underutilised.

Applications for funding will be accepted from January 10 to March 28, 2025.
