Poland backs EU financing for nuclear energy, but it needs to be technology-neutral
Poland's industry ministry backs extending EU financing on clean energy coming from nuclear sources, but the selection of projects to be financed needs to be technology-neutral, so that all technologies, including SMR, are treated equally, the head of nuclear energy department at the Ministry of Industry Pawel Gajda told PAP Biznes at the margins of FISA Euradwaste 2025 conference.
"On the EU forum, Poland will support any extension of EU financing on nuclear energy, namely including it in the catalogue of clean technologies so that nuclear energy could benefit from the same EU funds that today are available to other clean technologies in energy production," Gajda said.
He added that the principle of technological neutrality should be applied.
"We should not say that (the financing) should go to SMR technologies and not to other technologies. There should be a technological neutrality applied to treat equally all nuclear technologies, and we strongly support larger availability of various financing mechanisms to nuclear projects," director added.
