EIB, EIF and Santander BP sign agreement to provide PLN 5 bln to Polish SMEs

The European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Investment Fund (EIF), listed lender Santander BP, the unit of Spanish Banco Santander and Santander Leasing have signed a PLN 5 billion (EUR 1.2 bln) worth agreement to support lending to small and medium-sized enterprises in Poland, with particular focus on financing businesses that meet gender equality criteria.


The cooperation is expected to mobilise new funds, at least a third of which will benefit women-owned or women-led companies that promote inclusive employment or offer products designed to close the gender gap.

Under the signed agreement, the EIB Group invests a total of PLN 3.9 billion (EUR 936.4 mln) to reduce Santander’s risks associated with existing loans to facilitate new lending.
