Finnish energy group Fortum, specialising in renewables, has signed an agreement to acquire a stake in Polish energy solutions provider Orange Energia, the unit of listed telecom operator Orange Polska, for up to EUR 28 million, excluding cash and debt, Fortum said in a press release.
“Under the agreement, Fortum will continue to sell electricity and related digital services through Orange Polska's nationwide retail distribution network until at least the end of 2028," Fortum said in the press release.
"This will significantly strengthen Fortum's sales capacity and growth potential in Poland. Following the closing of the transaction, which is expected to take place in June or July 2025, approximately PLN 90 million (EUR 21 million) will be paid in cash,” it added.
It was reported that in accordance with the agreed earn-out mechanism, the remaining amount will be settled by the beginning of 2029 based on electricity sales targets achieved. The transaction is subject to standard closing conditions.
