InPost logistics buys Yodel, one of largest delivery services companies in UK
Amsterdam-listed parcel locker operator InPost is acquiring Yodel, one of the largest delivery services companies in the UK. The deal will make it the third largest independent logistics player in the country. The value of the transaction was not disclosed.
Under the terms of the transaction, InPost acquired 95.5 percent of the share capital of Judge Logistics Ltd - the parent company of Yodel Delivery Network, leaving PayPoint with a minority stake of 4.5 percent.
According to InPost's CEO Rafal Brzoska, this is a landmark moment for the entire industry, as a company is being created that will deliver parcels both to Paczkomat parcel lockers and customers' doors under one brand.
"The acquisition of Yodel is a key developmental moment on our way to revolutionise the UK delivery market and the InPost Group's presence across Europe. With this investment, we are accelerating our growth in the UK, which organically could have taken us up to five years," said Brzoska, quoted in the press release.
"This strategy reflects our long-term plan to engage in the UK market, which has the highest potential across Europe. InPost's logistics model has already transformed the delivery market in Poland, as well as in other European markets. Now, with the acquisition of Yodel, we are ready to do the same in the UK," he added.
The purchase of Yodel will allow InPost to accelerate its expansion in the UK, with the group estimating an increase in volume to around 300 million parcels per year, an immediate expansion of its vendor base to over 700 e-stores and around 8 percent market share.
In addition, InPost will offer a D+1 delivery regime in the B2C segment that is unique in the UK market.
InPost Group has more than 18,000 OOH outlets in the UK market, including 10,000 Paczkomat parcel lockers.
