Orlen SAOrlen energy holds no talks on Schwedt refinery, says CEO
Poland's largest energy concern Orlen is not currently holding any talks regarding the German Schwedt refinery, Orlen's CEO Ireneusz Fafara announced during a press conference on Monday.
"We are not holding any talks regarding the Schwedt refinery," CEO Fafara said.
Two German subsidiaries of the Russian state-owned company Rosneft hold a 54 percent stake in the Schwedt refinery. Rosneft also holds minority stakes in two other refineries: in Baden-Wurttemberg and Bavaria.
In the past, Orlen looked into the possibility of investing in Schwedt, but no decisions were made in this regard.
The Schwedt refinery can process 12 million tonnes of oil per year. It supplies the north-eastern German market, including Berlin. Some of the oil processed there goes to western Poland.
The refinery in Schwedt, a town located on the border with Poland, has in previous years mainly processed Russian oil from the Druzhba pipeline. Following Russia's aggression against Ukraine and the introduction of sanctions on Russian oil in the EU, the future of this plant has been called into question.
