PGE SAPGE power plans no energy price tariff application with loss assumed
Listed power utility PGE does not plan to submit an energy price tariff application that will assume a loss to the company, it wants it to reflect trends on the energy market, PGE's CEO Dariusz Marzec told a conference.
"I don't presume that we will submit tariff applications that will assume a loss, but we will certainly submit tariff applications that will reflect the situation on the market," the CEO said.
"In my opinion, the tariffs will be much more favourable for customers next year than this year, because that is how the market is shaping up," he added.
He pointed out that there is potential for a reduction in prices compared to what their current level, as indicated by market trends.
In the CEO's opinion, this downward trend is not expected to reverse any time soon.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Tuesday during the European Forum for New Ideas that state-owned companies are not necessarily meant to maximise profit, and that the task of energy companies is to ensure energy security and cheap energy.
"The time has come to rebuild and repolonise the national economy, market and capital," Tusk said.
Marzec, asked about the meeting between the CEOs of energy companies and the Prime Minister that took place this week, reported that the Prime Minister said that energy state-controlled companies cannot be guided solely by profit.
"We, as PGE, have it written into our statute that we are responsible for energy security. And energy security is also about the availability of energy and the fight against energy exclusion. These interests simply have to be reconciled," Marzec said.
"A responsible utility, where the State Treasury has a dominant role in its tariffs and proposals to the regulator, should reflect market trends and not take advantage of the situation of a public utility that would elevate prices," PGE's CEO stressed.
On Tuesday, the Council of Ministers adopted a draft of the Ministry of Climate and Environment (MKiS) moving the deadline for the submission of tariff proposals by energy companies from April 30 to July 31, 2025.
The start date of the revised electricity prices in the tariffs is also to be moved from July 1 to October 1, 2025.
