PKP Cargo SAPKP Cargo hauler finalises group layoffs process
Listed rail hauler PKP Cargo has completed the process of group layoffs, which has been in progress since mid-2024, resulting in a reduction in employment by 3,665 employees, the company said in a press release.
It was indicated that as of November 4, 2024, PKP Cargo in restructuring had 10,046 employees.
"Mismanagement and inactivity of previous management in acquiring contracts for 2024, among others, as well as the current and forecasted situation in the freight market for the coming years forced us to make these extremely difficult decisions and carry out group layoffs. Our goal was to save more than 10,000 needed jobs," acting CEO Marcin Wojewodka said.
As stated, at the time of launching the process of group layoffs, this is July 3, 2024, PKP Cargo employed 13,711 employees within 8 internal employers (7 Plants and Headquarters).
It was pointed out that this number decreased in four months to 10,046 employees.
This means that the state of employment was reduced by 3,665 employees, of which employment contracts were terminated for a group of 2,515 employees as part of collective layoffs, and a group of 1,150 employees were terminated for other reasons. The state of employment was reduced by 27 percent.
