Poland would obtain approx. EUR 120 bln if no major changes in EU cohesion policy were made
If there were no major changes in EU cohesion policy, Poland would receive approximately EUR 120 billion from the new EU budget, but the really big money will be in the EU competitiveness fund, which has not yet been subdivided, deputy minister of development funds and regional policy Jan Szyszko told journalists.
"As far as the EU budget [for 2028-2034 - PAP ed.] is concerned, we are still at a very preliminary stage, just five weeks after the European Commission presented its proposal for a budget regulation. We have at least 1.5 years of discussions ahead of us on what the EU budget should look like after 2027," Szyszko said.
"At the moment, according to our calculations, Poland's national envelope in this budget, if the budget was to look as presented by the European Commission, would amount to approximately EUR 120 billion, and we would be the largest beneficiary of the budget among all Member States. However, the EC's budget proposal is revolutionary in many respects, including the creation of a new competitiveness fund," he added.
As the development funds minister pointed out, the problem is that this competitiveness has not yet been defined, and the new fund has not yet been subdivided.
"Our goal is for competitiveness to be defined in such a way that it also serves the development of companies that are currently small and medium-sized and regions that are at an early stage of development rather than at the end of the process (...)" Szyszko emphasised.
"We know that the really big money will be in the competitiveness fund, which has not yet been apportioned," he added.
