Poland's nuclear power programme update by end-May; market dialogue on second nuclear plant in June
Poland's Ministry of Industry intends to present a draft update of the Polish Nuclear Power Programme (PPEJ) for consultation by the end of May, and in June it plans to start a dialogue with the market on the construction of a second nuclear power plant in Poland, government plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure Wojciech Wrochna told journalists.
"(Still in May - PAP) the publication of an update to the PPEJ is expected, and in June a dialogue with the market is already envisaged," Wrochna said.
In March, the Ministry of Industry presented assumptions for the updated Polish nuclear power programme (PPEJ), announcing that a full update would be presented soon.
At that time, the ministry announced a preliminary dialogue with the market on the construction of the second power plant in order to build the elements of a proper competitive procedure this year.
According to the assumptions, the first electricity from a nuclear reactor in Poland's Pomerania region is to enter the system in 2036.
In the years 2037-2038, the Ministry of Industry assumes the commissioning of subsequent units from 2039 onwards, the entire power plant would already be operating to meet the needs of Poland's National Power System.
The selection of a strategic partner for the construction of the second power plant would take place at the turn of 2026/2027.
The completion of the construction of the second nuclear power plant and the commissioning of the first unit is planned for 2040 and by 2043 the entire second power plant would be in operation.
