Tauron PE SATauron completes first stage of preparatory work for Roznow pumped storage power plant
Listed power utility Tauron has conducted a pre-feasibility study of the Roznow II pumped storage power plant, secured land for the investment and applied for conditions for connection to the transmission grid, the company said in a press release.
Roznow II project involves the construction of an energy storage facility in the form of a pumped storage power plant, located around the Roznow hydroelectric power plant.
The preliminary concept for the construction of ESP Roznow II envisages the construction of a facility with an energy capacity of more than 3 GWh and a power of approximately 700 MW. The facility is also intended to be an element of flood protection for the region.
Work is currently underway to detail the ESP concept variant (basic project).
As reported, due to the potential investment outlay of several billion Polish zlotys, the Tauron group has started talks on the possibility of co-financing the investment under aid mechanisms and co-financing with banks and international funds.
"We have preliminary interest from business partners in this investment," said Tauron's deputy CEO Michal Orlowski.
"Decisions on the implementation of the next phases of the project will depend on its level, the availability of support mechanisms and the confirmation of the assumptions regarding the capital expenditure," he added.
The group expects to start operating the facility in 2033.
At the end of September, Tauron finalised the purchase of a wind power farm Miejska Gorka project with a target capacity of approximately 190 MW target power. The project is to be finalised by 2027, with the complete construction cost at nearly PLN 2 billion (EUR 469.2 mln).
