Poland's President vetoes bill on aid to Ukrainian citizens
Poland's President Karol Nawrocki has vetoed the bill on aid to Ukrainian citizens, Nawrocki announced in his address on Monday. The law concerns, among others, social assistance in the form of a monthly payment of PLN 800 (EUR 187.52) for each child in the family.
"All circles clearly declare that 800+ should only be available to those refugees from Ukraine who undertake the obligation to work. (...) I am not changing my mind I intend to fulfil my duties and I believe that 800+ should only be paid to those Ukrainians who undertake to work in Poland," said President Nawrocki.
"The same applies to healthcare. If we look at healthcare and see a certain preference for Ukrainians over Poles, and healthcare that Ukrainians are entitled to regardless of whether they work and pay health insurance contributions or not, this puts us in a situation where Polish citizens are treated worse than our guests from Ukraine. I do not agree with this either (...) That is why I did not sign the bill on aid to Ukrainian citizens in its current form, while proposing my own draft bill," he added.
