Poland's regional transformation to be helped by large employment in nuclear power plants construction, says industry minister
Around 10,000 employees will be needed to build Poland's first nuclear power plant in Pomerania; the development of nuclear energy is therefore also the future for transformation in the regions, industry minister Marzena Czarnecka assessed at the FISA Euradwaste 2025 conference.
"We believe that nuclear energy projects will help us in our transformation. This is also the time to create new jobs, new skills," Czarnecka said.
She reported that around 10,000 workers will be needed to build Poland's first nuclear power plant in Pomerania.
"So, this is also the future for the transformation in certain regions that are important for us to show that these projects will be good for everyone, also for society," she added.
The Pomerania power plant is to have three reactors built with AP1000 technology from the US company Westinghouse with a total capacity of 3.75 GW.
In its notification application to the European Commission, the government assessed the cost of the investment at PLN 192 billion (EUR 45.3 bln).
Electricity from the first reactor is expected to flow to grid in 2036.
Another large-scale nuclear power plant is also planned under the Polish Nuclear Power Programme PPEJ; Polish companies also have plans to develop small SMR nuclear reactors.
