Prosecutor seizes documents from Poland's central bank for monetary body probe
A prosecutor assisted by three police officers has arrived at the National Bank of Poland (NBP) and seized documents on the Monetary Policy Council (RPP) for a probe into disclosure of confidential information, NBP has reported.
"The National Bank of Poland informs that on June 12, 2025, in connection with an investigation into the suspicion of disclosing classified information marked as 'secret', Mr. Andrzej Piaseczny, Prosecutor of the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw, accompanied by three police officers, at the headquarters of the central bank, requested and received certain documents concerning the Monetary Policy Council," the NBP said in a statement on Thursday.
The NBP said that "all expected documents were ready and would have been made available in the appropriate form and manner." It further added that the prosecutor's action "was inadequate to its purpose and nature, inconsistent with the principles of procedural economy, and did not align with the accepted standard of conduct in other similar cases." The NBP announced it would notify the European Central Bank regarding this matter.
Izabela Dolgan-Szymanska from Warsaw's District Prosecutor's Office told PAP on Thursday that the body requested the records from the NBP twice, citing the need to verify information for the probe. Following the calls, the NBP denied fulfilling the request twice, the prosecutor said, leading to Thursday's move based on provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure. (PAP)
