Westinghouse's plans for Polish firms extend beyond domestic market, says industry minister
US-based Westinghouse has chosen six Polish suppliers with plans involving not only the Polish market but also global nuclear projects, Poland's industry minister Marzena Czarnecka told a briefing with journalists, highlighting the government’s focus on regulations and local content for nuclear development.
The minister stressed that in the context of the development of nuclear power projects, the Polish government is primarily concerned with regulations and local content.
She confirmed that the PLN 60 billion (EUR 14.1 billion) to be spent by the Treasury on the first nuclear power plant is to be used to support domestic companies.
"Westinghouse is already in the process and has selected the first six companies (...) for which it has plans not only and exclusively for accreditation in the Polish market, but also in the world markets where Westinghouse will build nuclear power plants," Czarnecka said.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Poland's 100-pecent state-owned SPV Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ), the investor of the nuclear project in the Choczewo municipality, had selected six Polish companies to supply components for the construction of the nuclear reactor.
He added that PLN 60 billion (EUR 14.1 bln) coming from the budget for the construction of the nuclear power plant will also go to Polish companies.
