Unilever plans further development projects in Poland (interview)

Unilever, which completed an investment of more than PLN 150 million (EUR 35 million) in its Bydgoszcz factory in May, is planning further development projects in Poland, communications & corporate affairs director Maciej Lason told PAP Biznes.

“In May, we completed a key investment in the Bydgoszcz factory. The project, worth over PLN 150 million, included the construction of a fully automated high-bay warehouse and the launch of two new production lines for stick deodorants. In total, recent investment in our factories amounted to PLN 250 million,” Maciej Lason told an interview with PAP Biznes.

"This is not the group’s last investment in Poland. We are planning further development projects. Our activities will focus on modernization and retrofitting of existing plants,” he added.

In Poland, Unilever has a main office in Warsaw and an operations hub in Katowice. The company also has production facilities in Poznan and Bydgoszcz. The factories produce about 80-90 percent of the volume for export.

Unilever group employs about 3,000 people in Poland. In addition, it is opening a so-called procurement hub in Warsaw, one of the largest in the world.

For the group, Poland is one of the most important markets in Europe.

“The Unilever group underwent a very large global restructuring and reorganization last year. Poland was ranked among the six largest and most important markets in Europe, and stands out among them as the fastest-growing and most promising in terms of percentage increases,” Lason said.

In his opinion, Poland offers very good conditions for production activities. It stands out for its favorable geographic location and access to skilled labor.

“It is a stable, growing market, whose trends clearly follow Western European patterns, although sometimes with some lag. At the same time, its relatively small scale favors testing new solutions thanks to a lower entry threshold. Poland represents a market in the development phase among already developed economies,” he added.

Part of the global strategy is the group’s focus on the thirty largest brands in the portfolio and the intensification of innovation activities within them. These brands, out of 400 in the entire portfolio, account for more than 75 percent of the company’s revenues.

The Unilever Group is one of the world's largest consumer goods manufacturers, offering food products, household chemicals and cosmetics. Sales revenues in 2024 amounted to EUR 60.8 billion.
