Poland is working on modifying ETS2 system in EU - climate minister
Poland is working on a modification of the ETS2 system in the EU, Deputy Climate and Environment Minister Urszula Zielinska told the Polish Lower House of parliament Sejm.
"Even though the negotiations have ended, we are working on the modification of this system. We are raising the issues of transition periods, the question of postponing the entry into force of certain obligations and the introduction of price hedging mechanisms," she said.
"We are making an effort to improve this directive," she added.
From 2027, a new emissions trading scheme (the ETS2) is due to take effect in the EU, covering all 27 EU countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
The scheme will focus on emissions from road transport and buildings, but member states will be able to voluntarily extend its scope to other sectors.
