President to call top-level meeting to discuss energy security
President Andrzej Duda will convene a meeting of the National Security Council (RBN), which includes himself and the country's other top officials, to address matters concerning the security of Poland’s energy system and power grid, an aide has said.
Duda had announced the convening of the RBN on Poland's energy security in late April in light of a major power grid failure in Spain.
He said then that the blackout that affected Spain, Portugal and part of France at that time was a "warning signal" to take care of the condition of the region's energy networks.
Grzegorz Witkowski, an aide to the National Security Bureau head, told a public broadcaster TVP Info on Sunday that Duda "will invite key government ministers and Prime Minister Donald Tusk to the National Security Council within the next two weeks."
The meeting will focus on "key investments related to the country's energy infrastructure," he added.
Witkowski said the topics Duda wants to discuss include whether Poland is prepared for a summer blackout, the supply of energy resources from abroad, plans for nuclear energy development, Poland’s deepwater container port project in the northwestern city of Swinoujscie and Poland's first floating LNG terminal to be located in Port of Gdansk.
The RBN serves an advisory body to the president on matters of internal and external security. It plays a crucial role in coordinating government efforts to address national security concerns. (PAP)
