Eurocash SAEurocash, Chorten and Netto Polska want to join European purchasing group EMD
Listed FMCG trader Eurocash, Polish grocery stores group Chorten and Netto Polska supermarket chain intend to establish a joint venture in order to join European Marketing Distribution (EMD), a European purchasing group, the companies announced in a press release.
According to the announcement, thanks to cooperation within EMD, the new members will be able to increase their purchasing power at the European level, generating significant savings in the supply chain, which they intend to use to strengthen the offer for end customers of their networks.
"The presence of a new participant in EMD, which will be formed by the Eurocash group, the Chorten group and Netto Polska, should translate into improved purchasing conditions for retailers cooperating within the Eurocash and Chorten group networks and customers of the Netto Polska chain of stores," the release said.
The companies bring together around 20,000 stores, generating an annual turnover of over EUR 12 billion, which, according to the statement, makes them the second largest player on the Polish retail market.
The consent of Poland's antitrust and consumer protection regulator UOKiK is required to establish the joint venture.
European Marketing Distribution (EMD) is Europe's largest international purchasing group in the FMCG retail sector. It brings together independent retailers and distributors from over 15 countries, enabling them to negotiate jointly with global manufacturers.
