mBank lender wants to reach dividend level of 75 pct in 2030, aims to rapidly increase lending

The Warsaw-listed unit of Commerzbank mBank's path to its target payout of 75 percent of profits as dividends for 2030 stems from its desire to rapidly increase lending, which will require capital increases in the coming years, the lender's CEO Cezary Kocik told a press conference.

"Our dividend policy assumes that we will allocate 30 percent of profits for 2026, then 40 percent up to 75 percent in the last year [envisaged in the new strategy - MI ed.], i.e. for 2030," CEO Kocik told the press conference on Tuesday.

"This path is driven by the desire to finance very rapid growth in lending, and there are additional buffers that require us to increase our capital. Still, if we want to grow quickly, we have to leave a significant portion of our profits in the bank," he added.

mBank's strategy for 2030, presented a few days ago, assumes no dividend payment from the profit earned by the lender in 2025. In subsequent years, mBank's goal is to allocate capital to profitable lending activities, while its surplus will be paid out to shareholders in the form of dividends.

mBank's dividend policy to date has assumed a dividend payout ratio of 50 percent.

Currently, the bank's goal is to pay dividends regularly, starting at 30 percent of the net profit generated in 2026. The bank aims to gradually increase the dividend payout ratio, setting a strategic goal of achieving a 75 percent payout of the net profit generated in 2030.

As stated by mBank in its strategy, the adopted dividend policy will allow for the effective use of capital, ensuring an optimal balance between profitable business development, safe and stable capital surpluses above regulatory levels, and a satisfactory level of profitability measures.

The final level of dividend payment will depend on further changes in the bank's regulatory and operating environment and the decisions of Poland's financial market regulator KNF.
