KGHM Polska Miedź SAPoland seen extracting 1 mln tonnes of copper in 10 years due to changes in copper tax, says dep. FinMin
The changes to the so-called copper tax will make it possible to increase the extraction of this raw material in Poland to 1 million tonnes in 10 years from 400,000 tonnes at present, deputy finance minister Jaroslaw Neneman told reporters.
"(...) We estimate that 1 million tonnes is realistic in the perspective of the imaginable, 10 years, these are long periods," Neneman said.
As the finance deputy minister pointed out, KGHM's current smelting capacity is higher than its mining capacity, which makes it necessary to import concentrate.
"Already at the moment it is necessary to import concentrate, KGHM's smelting capacity is higher than the deposits it exploits," he noted.
