Unimot fuels plans to enter defence sector in cooperation with PZL Sedziszow

Listed fuels distributor Unimot plans to enter the defence sector through equity participation in the newly established company PZL Defence, Unimot announced in a press release. The project will be carried out in cooperation with PZL Sedziszow and an Ukrainian partner.

"Unimot has signed a letter of intent with PZL Sedziszow and PZL Defence, declaring its will to develop strategic cooperation and build the competencies of the new company in the area of advanced defence technologies," the company said in the press release.

It added that, in parallel, an agreement has been concluded under which Unimot - following the registration of PZL Defence in the National Court Register (KRS) - will acquire 40 percent of shares in the new company for PLN 400,000 (EUR 94,040). The preliminary shareholding structure also envisages a target share of PZL Sedziszow at 10 percent and an Ukrainian partner with a 50 percent stake.

"Once the investment process is completed and the required administrative approvals are obtained, it is planned that PZL Defence will start production of civilian drones, and then - after obtaining a licence - expand its operations to include the segment of military drones and anti-drone systems intended for the protection of critical infrastructure," Unimot reported.

According to the press release, PZL Sedziszow, as a licensed manufacturer for the defence sector, will bring advanced competence in precision engineering to the project, as well as provide access to a new production hall adapted to the requirements of the defence industry and expanded laboratory and technological facilities.

Unimot added that the team of the new company, PZL Defence, is being built with experts from Poland and Ukraine, including specialists with military and industrial experience. Ultimately, the structure of this company is to include a research and development (R&D) centre focused on the design of reconnaissance, interceptor, loitering munition type drones and unmanned aircraft threat neutralisation systems.

PZL Sedziszow, on the basis of its current concessions for military production, currently manufactures filters for military vehicles (Rosomak) and military helicopters from the Leonardo group.
