Lithium-ion batteries, cargo vehicles and cigarettes remain Poland's export hits - PIE

Poland's export hits in the first quarter of 2025 were lithium-ion batteries, cargo vehicles and cigarettes, according to the Polish Economic Institute PIE.

PIE reported that at the beginning of 2025, Poland was the 7th largest exporter of products in the EU and the 6th largest supplier of goods in the EU. In 195 product categories, Poland was the leading exporter. It is now in the top five EU exporters for 1544 products.

"This means that [Poland] is one of the key exporters in about a quarter of all product categories," PIE pointed out.

According to the Polish Economic Institute, lithium-ion batteries, cargo vehicles and cigarettes remained Poland's export hits in the first quarter of 2025.

"However, weak demand in the EU and changes in market conditions affected declines in all these categories," PIE added.

The institution reported that exports of lithium-ion batteries reached EUR 1.38 billion and fell by more than 6 percent year on year, exacerbating the export slump that occurred in 2024. Despite this, Poland maintains its leading position in the EU, with a 20 percent share of total EU exports in this category.

In contrast, exports of goods transport vehicles fell by 25 percent, against a 17 percent drop in the EU as a whole. Poland now ranks fourth in the EU with a share of around 15 percent of total EU exports worth EUR 1.1 billion.

According to PIE, Poland maintains its first place in the European Union in cigarette exports with a share of over 30 percent of total EU exports, despite a decline of 6 percent compared to the prior year period.
