Poland's CPI inflation to hover around 5 pct y/y in coming quarters, says c. bank member
In the coming quarters, CPI inflation in Poland will be hovering around 5 percent year on year, Poland's central bank NBP board member Pawel Szalamacha told a speech at the Economic Forum in Karpacz.
"Inflation went down to the target this spring, although it will still fluctuate - this is it will hover around 5 percent in the coming quarters. Because it was necessary - I believe it was necessary, although there may be counter-arguments - to get out of the shields freezing energy and gas prices for households and some companies introduced during the crisis," Szalamacha said.
"I believe that these shields should have been introduced two years ago, and today - after the causes have ceased - they should be gradually abandoned, there is no need to make a scandal out of it, you just have to get through it," he added.
According to Poland's stats office GUS, in August 2024, CPI inflation in Poland was 4.3 percent year on year and 0.1 percent month on month.
Poland's central bank NBP's inflation target is 2.5 percent with a symmetrical deviation range of +/- 1 percentage point.
